Valerie Bertinelli Says Her Special Bond With Eddie Van Halen Made Some People Mad

Late Van Halen icon Eddie Van Halen’s ex-wife Valerie Bertinelli recently made an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. She said talking publicly about the special bond between her and Eddie has enraged many people.

The famous actress Valerie Bertinelli and the legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen were married between 1981 and 2007, but they decided to get a divorce due to Eddie’s cocaine and nicotine addiction. Later, both married other people, but they reconnected a few years before Eddie’s passing on October 6, 2020.

In her previous interviews after Eddie Van Halen died, Valerie Bertinelli described her late husband as her soulmate and said their love was there until the end. The actress also stated that it was hard to explain the feelings she and the late guitarist had for each other, so she couldn’t make people understand that. However, Bertinelli has received a severe backlash since these statements as many said it was disrespectful to Eddie’s widow Janie Van Halen.

During her recent appearance on the show, Valerie Bertinelli revealed that she reconnected with her late husband when she brought some food to their son Wolfgang Van Halen’s house one night. Eddie was also there to visit his son, and they didn’t lose touch until the guitarist’s passing. Valerie stated that despite parting ways, there was always love between them.

Although it turned into a friendship rather than romantic love, their unique bond lasted until the last moment. The actress noted that she is aware of people’s anger towards her due to her previous statements, yet it was all true. She had known Eddie for over three decades, so she didn’t expect other people to understand what they shared. Valerie thinks that people reacted so harshly since they were both married to other people when they reconnected. They thought it wasn’t right of her to use these kinds of words about her late husband.

Valerie Bertinelli’s statements about the criticisms she’s faced:

“I took the leftovers ’cause I always, you know have stuff at home too, because I’m always practicing before I do it. And I took it over to Wolfie’s house and that’s when Ed came by. And it all starts the whole story of this reconnection that Ed and I had in the last few years of his life.

I know so many people get mad at me when I say that there was a love that Ed and I had that no one really can [understand.] But it’s true. I’ve known the guy since I was 20 years old. I was a baby, and he was just my life for a very long time. They get mad because we were both married to other people.”
