Adam Lambert recently released a video addressing the recent legislations and bans against drag entertainers while accusing the lawmakers of abusing their power to threaten the LGBTQIA+ community via Twitter.

The recent Anti-Drag bill in Tennessee got in the way of drag entertainers‘ right to perform publicly, and soon after that particular ban passed, other states followed suit as different Republican lawmakers started proposing new laws. So, Adam addressed the recent controversy, accusing the state officials of abusing their powers to discriminate against the drag entertainers and manipulating laws to punish people they didn’t deem ‘fit.’

Lambert also discussed why lawmakers threatened the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community, claiming how state authorities wanted to prevent drag performers from living their ‘truths’ while they used ‘children’ as excuses to create more bans. The rocker then called out to all LGBTQIA+ allies and members to condemn the recent anti-drag trend, as he wishes to halt all the bans and state legislations against the community, and he invited people to fight for their truth and freedom.

The singer’s statement follows:

“Drag is joy. It’s a celebration of all the things that make queer people who we are. Drag is an amazing way to bring light to the world. And these lawmakers are terrified of just how brightly we’re shining. They’re using children as an excuse to take one more thing away from us.

Well, they’re clearly threatened that we are living our truth, that we aren’t apologizing for it anymore. And using the children as this tool against us, it doesn’t make any sense. If they cared about children, they would care about all children.

These laws could be very easily manipulated in order to target and punish people in our community. So let’s come together and protect our drag entertainers in our community and protect the freedom of speech that we all have a right to in this country.”

The Queen rocker is not the only artist who has publicly condemned the recent bans against drag entertainers; from Paramore‘s Hayley Williams to actor Kevin Bacon, many other celebrities vocalized their concerns, though one particular rocker was pretty content with the recent controversy. You can check out what Ted Nugent had to say about the recent bans and why he threatened to cancel Bacon.
