In a new interview with Rock Candy Magazine, Kiss founder Ace Frehley revealed his thoughts on his replacement, Tommy Thayer. While discussing Kiss’ farewell show, he revealed what fans wanted from Frehley:
“Fans would constantly reach out to me and say, ‘Ace, please come back to the band.'”
Well, did he want to be included in the farewell show? He answered:
“So the fans were and are my primary motivators, and I want them to know that I did try, but I couldn’t make it happen. They never asked me.”
Despite the public feuds, Frehley does not hold any animosity towards Stanley, Simmons and also Thayer. Though he is sure Thayer would never be him:
“He’s a good guy and deserves a break. He’s not me, but he was never going to be me. In a lot of ways, his task was impossible.”
Frehley Thinks Thayer Is ‘Back To The Breadline’

Leaving the band in 2002, Frehley was eventually replaced with Thayer, and the rocker remained a member of the band until the end of their career in late 2023. Despite having a longer career with Kiss than Frehley, the former Kiss rocker thinks that he has a talent that no one, even Thayer, can’t duplicate.
Frehley praised his own unique playing style while gloating that Thayer’s gig with KISS had come to an end with the farewell shows in an earlier interview:
“I’ve never had a guitar lesson. I was born with a certain technique that many people, namely Tommy Thayer, can’t duplicate. And with Tommy, yeah… that’s over now. It’s back to the breadline for him!”
