Zayn Malik Releases His Cover Of Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Angel’

Zayn Malik, who built a reputation as a member of the five-piece boy band One Direction, is apparently on the cusp of switching genres from pop to rock. The singer just released his cover of Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Angel,’ and fans are intrigued about what the next era will be like for Malik.

Days before the release of Malik’s cover, Jimi Hendrix’s official account shared a post on Instagram and tagged Zayn. A teaser video was also released on Instagram and Twitter featuring their names, accompanied by crowd noises in the background. After the guitar intro of the track, Malik’s voice followed.

Fans were patiently waiting for the grand reveal, and it turns out Zayn did in fact cover Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Angel,’ which was a song from his 1971 album ‘The Cry of Love.’ The track was released on November 25, coincidentally two days before what would have been Hendrix’s 80th birthday. Although there are no official statements about this new venture yet, fans are eager to see if he will also be one of the artists that shift from pop to rock.

The pop sensation isn’t the only star to shift genres into rock. Names like Machine Gun Kelly and Miley Cyrus are some of the biggest names in the industry to venture out; however, their transition has not been welcomed by everyone on the rock scene. So it will be interesting to see whether Zayn will receive backlash or be accepted into the genre that has experienced a shift over the last couple of years.
