In a new conversation with NME, Yungblud picked the best metal band under 40.
“I think Bring Me the Horizon are the best metal band under 40-years-old, really, in the world,” the singer said when asked whether it is easier now to switch between different genres. “When they push the genre, they push it forward, they experiment in their field.”
Yungblud went on to talk about his relationship with Oli Sykes, “Oli [Sykes, frontman] is one of my best friends and a mentor to me, and it’s been inspiring how he pushes his f*cking genre to different places.”
This isn’t the first time Yungblud has shared his admiration for Bring Me the Horizon. In a 2020 chat with NME, the rocker talked about how Oli Sykes’ music ‘saved [his] life’ while growing up.
He explained, “He literally redefined my perception of growing up in wearing make-up and being different in the north. He basically saved my life.”
Bring Me the Horizon and Yungblud also collaborated on a song named ‘Obey.’ “I’d waited my whole life to scream on a Bring Me the Horizon song. I was pissed in LA when he called and I told him that I was going to the studio immediately,” Yungblud said of the process.
“He’s like, ‘Woah, woah, woah – we haven’t finished the song.’ I said I’d been waiting for this call my whole life, got into the studio, turned the mic on and just screamed for seven hours,” Yungblud revealed.
Sykes also reflected on the collaboration, “He’s the kind of artist that rock needs – the kind of rockstar that changes a scene. I love him; he lights up a room. He’s the polar opposite to me. I wish I could have that confidence that he has. It’s infectious and that’s why a lot of kids look up to him.”
Yungblud’s only scheduled show for 2025 for now is on June 21, 2025, in Milton Keynes.
