It’s been three years since Eddie Van Halen’s passing, and he’d be 68 if he were still around today. In his recent tweet, Eddie’s son Wolfgang Van Halen celebrated his late father’s birthday and revealed what he would wish to do with him if he were still alive.
Wolfgang tweeted a picture with his father to celebrate Eddie’s birthday on January 26, sharing a happy moment they had together. “Happy 68th Birthday, Pop,” he wrote in the tweet. “Wish I could give you a big hug and tell it to you in person. I love and miss you more than you could ever know.”
Besides Wolfgang, Eddie’s ex-wife, Valerie Bertinelli, didn’t forget to celebrate the late frontman’s birthday. She posted two pictures of herself, Wolfgang, and Eddie, in which they all looked happy together. Valerie didn’t write a birthday message, though; she just posted the pictures with a white heart emoji.
Eddie Van Halen’s wife also took to her Instagram to write a birthday message for her late husband. “Happy Heavenly Birthday, my Peep,” she wrote in the caption. The post also featured a quote that read, “And some smiles never leave you the same.”
Although Alex Van Halen doesn’t have any social media accounts, he also shared a birthday message via Van Halen News Desk. “Without music, life would be a mistake. Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and cannot remain silent. Music is what tells us that the human race is greater than we realize,” Alex quoted Albert Einstein. “Ed, we love you,” he added.
Eddie Van Halen struggled with addiction for most of his life. He and Alex were in their early teens when they started smoking and drinking. Besides addiction, the Van Halen icon also battled tongue, throat, and lung cancer. On October 6, 2020, he sadly died of a stroke, surrounded by Janie, Valerie, Wolfgang, and Alex.
Following their divorce, Valerie Bertinelli and Eddie Van Halen remained friends. In fact, Valerie and Wolfgang were present during Eddie’s wedding to Janie Liszewski, with Alex Van Halen officiating the wedding. The guitar icon’s passing was devastating news for all of them — especially for Alex, who has since lived as a recluse to process his grief.
Happy 68th Birthday Pop.
