Alex Van Halen Is Not Ready To Talk To Anyone, Sammy Hagar Says
Sammy Hagar recently made an appearance on Lipps Service with Scott Lipps and talked about his current relationship with Alex Van Halen by mentioning he was not able to communicate with his former bandmate.
Alex Van Halen formed the iconic rock band Van Halen in 1972 along with his younger brother Eddie Van Halen, David Lee Roth, and Mark Stone under the name of Mammoth. In 1974, Michael Anthony joined the band and they changed their name to Van Halen. In 1985, Sammy Hagar joined Van Halen to replace David Lee Roth and contributed to the band’s following albums’ success. He then left the band in 1996 until he rejoin them for a short time between 2003 and 2005.
Before Van Halen’s disbandment in 2020 following Eddie’s passing, the band released 11 more albums. Until that time, the Van Halen brothers were the only constant members in the band’s line-up. Eddie’s cause of death was his long-time battle against cancer, and his passing left the band members, especially Alex, quite heartbroken. Following his brother’s death, Alex did not want to get into contact with anybody. Currently, he is known to be living as a recluse.
In an interview on Lipps Service with Scott Lipps, Sammy Hagar revealed that he was not able to get in touch with Alex Van Halen. He stated that Alex is still very hurt and he is not thinking about coming out of his shell yet. Following that, The Circle frontman said Alex does not respond to anyone although everyone tries to reach out to him. According to Hagar, the only person who could get into contact with Alex was Irving Azoff. He then revealed that Alex told Azoff he is not ready to communicate with his bandmates, friends, and loved ones yet.
Asked if Alex Van Halen is currently living as a recluse, Sammy Hagar told Scott Lips that:
“Completely. He is very hurt, you know, I talked to people around him, and he’s not coming out of his shell yet. So when he comes out, I would love to [keep in touch with him]. I’ve reached out to him four times, but he doesn’t respond to me, to Mikey, to anyone. I know that no one I know has talked to Alex Van Halen except Irving Azoff. He called him and said ‘Oh, what can I do for you?’ and Alex said ‘Nothing, I ain’t ready.’ So, that’s a tough one. Those guys were close.”
Losing someone who is so close to you is indeed not an easy thing to get over with. It seems Alex Van Halen is still mourning the death of his brother Eddie Van Halen, and he still needs time to recover.
