Wolfgang Van Halen On Michael Anthony: ‘No Hatred Or Competition Between Us’

Wolfgang Van Halen’s busy schedule since the release of Mammoth WVH’s sophomore album saw a reunion with Michael Anthony in December. The two musicians, who hadn’t crossed paths for decades, met during one of Mammoth WVH’s concerts in Las Vegas.

In a recent chat with Ultimate Classic Rock, Wolfgang expressed his joy about the reunion and noted about their relationship:

“Oh, it was wonderful. We hadn’t seen each other in 20 years. So it was great to just give him a big hug and really talk. We haven’t had much of an opportunity to do so. People try to make it seem like there’s some animosity, hatred or competition between us, but it’s never been that way.”

Wolfgang Loves Anthony

Capturing the moment, Anthony shared a video of the Las Vegas show on Instagram, with a caption expressing love for his late bandmate, Eddie Van Halen’s son. Wolfgang referred to the bassist as ‘family’ in a previous interview, highlighting the deep connection between the two.

This time, he opened up more about his thoughts on Anthony by saying:

“I’ve literally always loved Mike. He’s a wonderful person, wonderful guy and a wonderful musician. Man, it was such a pleasure and joy to reconnect with him. It was like a family reunion. My mom and my uncle, Patrick, were there as well. They obviously go way further back than I do with Mike. But man, it was wonderful. I was very happy.”

It Was Time For A Reunion

Wolfgang replaced Anthony in the Van Halen lineup in 2006 when he was just 15 years old. The two already had plans to meet up before coming together in Las Vegas for the first time in twenty years.

Commenting on the ‘long-overdue’ reunion in a chat with Loudwire Nights, the Mammoth WVH frontman shared:

“I think we had planned that at least since I’ve been touring and it just worked out and it was very wonderful to see him – love that my Mom was there and my uncle Patrick who is also part of the Mammoth team, he goes way back with them. It’s really nice to have that little reunion.”

Leaving the December meet-up behind, Wolfgang Van Halen is focusing on his ongoing tour while also working on his band’s third album. Additionally, he has plans for an upcoming guitar line named EVH SA-126.
