Grace Slick has never been one to hold back against anything she didn’t enjoy. From Woodstock to her friend Joni Mitchell, it wasn’t easy for anything or anyone to slip under the radar and escape from a good old slamming session by Slick. So, it would be safe to say that the Jefferson Airplane icon usually doesn’t care what you think.

Well, during one particular slamming session, Slick remarked that she was embarrassed to see the now almost 80-year-old Mick Jagger taking the stage and singing some youthful songs about getting no satisfaction from life with his current millions of dollars worth of wealth. It felt to Grace that, sometimes, rockers should know when to walk away and retire from performing.

The frontwoman even gave the proper age to retire from the scene, firmly stating that any rocker older than 50 and still performing looked stupid. What she says might be easily tempting, isn’t it? Well, if you don’t think so, let me say that there was one point in 2006 when Noel Gallagher would’ve agreed with her.

The guitarist was chatting with the Age three years before Oasis’ infamous disbandment, as he discussed why he wouldn’t want to be like Pink Floyd, who were still performing, despite their age of over 40. In true Gallagher fashion, the rocker remarked that he wouldn’t want to be around when he was 40 years old, as he wanted to quit while his leather jacket still looked good on him.

Noel Gallagher on why he wouldn’t want to take the stage when he was older than forty:

“We’ve been gently pushed into all this [the fame]. Let’s get this out of the way before I’m 40. I don’t want to be like Pink Floyd going up there as an old fella. I might as well do it while I can still look good in a leather jacket.”

I feel like I’m hearing you saying, ‘Noel’s older than 40 now, and he’s still performing.’ We might say that he probably thinks his leather jacket still looks nice on him. After all, these statements you’ve just read were made more than a decade ago, and he’s still going strong as a solo act.

However, in the end, he did turn out to be like Pink Floyd, reaching over the age of 40 and still taking the stage. Although Noel Gallagher seems pleased now with where he is, maybe, the only person who might slam him would be Grace Slick, who stood by her words and retired at the age of fifty.
