Hatebreed guitarist Wayne Lozinak recently opened up about his experience watching his replacement perform with the band during his brain tumor treatment. He shared his thoughts in an interview on Beardo And Weirdo.

Lozinak discussed how he felt about guitarist Matt Bachand stepping in to fill his role during his treatment and recovery process. When asked directly about any concerns regarding his replacement’s performance, Lozinak provided a candid response.

“Well, he has a different style, you know, he’s a good guy,” Lozinak said. “He’s like more of like a long-haired metalhead kind of, but he’s the rhythm guitar player, so there’s some things that he didn’t do anyway, but no, I wasn’t thinking that.”

The conversation then turned to what it was like for Lozinak to watch Hatebreed perform without him while he was recovering at home.

“That’s the worst part. I think that’s what made me get there so quick, because I’m sitting there like I’m just watching all these shows, and it’s like, oh yeah, great,” he continued. “And the one time we bring a video guy on tour to film every show and post them on Instagram. Like we never, all the years we’ve been there, we didn’t do this, but we just started doing this.”

The interview provided insight into the challenging experience of watching his band continue touring while he focused on his health and recovery.

Lozinak’s health crisis marked a significant moment in Hatebreed’s ongoing journey. The band has weathered numerous lineup changes throughout its three-decade history.

Wikipedia noted that Hatebreed has experienced several member transitions over the years. Lozinak himself is a founding member who returned to the band after previous departures. The Connecticut-based hardcore metal outfit has maintained its core identity despite these changes. It continues to tour and record with various configurations.

The band’s resilience during member absences reflects their professional approach to handling personal crises. Fueled By Death Cast reported that Lozinak has been with Hatebreed from the beginning. He has navigated the complexities of band dynamics throughout his career. His temporary departure for medical treatment demonstrates the band’s commitment to supporting their members during health challenges.

Lozinak’s experience watching performances from home highlights the emotional toll that medical absences can take on touring musicians. Metal Insider revealed that the guitarist has previously discussed the challenges of maintaining connection with the band during difficult periods. This includes the pandemic era when touring was limited.

The timing of Hatebreed’s decision to document their shows more extensively during Lozinak’s absence added an additional layer of complexity to his recovery experience. This increased social media presence meant that his replacement’s performances were more visible than ever before. It created both promotional opportunities for the band and emotional challenges for the recovering guitarist.
