Victoria De Angelis recently joined Genius alongside her Måneskin bandmates and discussed working with Tom Morello, learning from the guitarist and the one lesson he taught young rockers.

The act recently collaborated with Morello, getting into the studio and recording the single, ‘Gossip.’ Tom seemed to be a leading figure in the recording sessions, and Måneskin was enthusiastic about learning from him. The bassist then pointed out how most collaborations these days felt fake as artists didn’t get into the studio together and remotely worked.

However, she and her bandmates had the chance to work personally alongside the guitarist and discover all the lessons he had to offer. So, the band realized it was an important lesson when he reminded them how essential it was to keep the raw feeling of rock within their tunes.

The bassist on Morello’s lesson for them to keep raw elements on point:

“I’d say that many times nowadays, all these collaborations between artists are quite made, so sometimes you won’t even get to meet in real life or get to jam on the song together and stuff, while it was really refreshing to be in the studio with such a legend and we spent many days working on the song.

…and it was a really natural process, and it really felt like our usual way of doing it with no boundaries and no limits. It felt the same with him after he had the craziest career and has made history. So it was super inspiring but also reminded us of never losing that raw feeling and energy and that passion for music.”

Victoria De Angelis and her bandmates learned valuable lessons about rock from Morello, who helped them remember the essential elements of rock music. There is no doubt that the raw sound of instruments is a must-have in any rock song, so Tom’s advice was on point.
