Underoath vocalist Spencer Chamberlain addressed speculation about a controversial Bring Me The Horizon song lyric in an interview with Rock Feed.

He discussed the collaboration on ‘a bulleT w/ my namE On’ and addressed the controversial line that drew attention from fans.

“I think with the Bring Me The Horizon song, I think that was another brilliant move that Oli Sykes decided to do. He wrote that line that everyone’s upset about. That wasn’t my line,” Chamberlain explained.

He provided context about the collaborative process while addressing speculation about being set up for controversy.

“I guess at one point when we were a Christian band and deemed not a Christian band anymore, singer to say the line that he wrote that’s probably the most controversial line on the record is kind of obvious,” he said. “And I think when he asked me he was like, ‘Hey mate, you all right seeing that?’ And I was like, ‘Dude, it’s your song. I’m gonna make my suggestions and I’m gonna put my input on it and I’m gonna put my twist on things but if that’s something that that you need out of the song and that’s a moment you want my voice on it like let’s go.'”

Chamberlain elaborated on his position regarding the collaboration and its intended meaning.

“We both knew the backlash was going to be what it was. But that’s not why we did it,” he continued. “I think he’s really smart. I think that was smart. I don’t feel like I was duped into it or I was in the bait. I just think that I was like, ‘What a cool idea.’ Neither one of us are Christian. Do either of us hate Christians? No. Is there a deeper meaning in that song? Yeah. Talk to him about it and he’ll tell you all about it. But we knew that was coming.”

The collaboration emerges as a significant moment in both bands’ evolving musical journeys.

Wikipedia revealed that ‘a bulleT w/ my namE On’ appears on Bring Me The Horizon’s newest album “POST HUMAN: NeX GEn,” released on May 24, 2024. The track combines both bands’ metal styles into a distinctive sonic experience.

Chosic noted the song’s exploration of loss, longing, and relationship endings. The track features melancholic and introspective moments with poignant lyrics such as “we get so lost, inside of your eyes.”

The partnership coincides with Underoath’s significant artistic transformation. The band has evolved beyond their Christian metalcore roots. Their recent works, including albums “Erase Me” (2018) and “Voyeurist” (2022), focus on broader themes of personal struggle, hope, and growth.

This controversial collaboration demonstrates both bands’ commitment to pushing creative boundaries. They maintain their distinctive positions in the modern metal landscape while exploring new artistic territories.
