Bono is an activist in addition to his musical personality and has been in the media regarding both public personas. The musician actively raises awareness for social issues, and his musical persona began fusing with his political presence. Recently, U2’s Edge commented on this and said that Bono is putting his career at risk by being a political person.

Bono’s activism in politics is highly praised as he surely can make a difference when he has the power to influence people all around the world. However, this seems to coincide with his musical career a bit because now people can’t tell Bono from his musical and political self.

According to his bandmate and friend, Edge, the singer has compromised his PR profile, not his principles. He appreciated his approach to politics and found him right throughout the interview with Mojo to have taken a political stand. He stated that PR is important, and Bono sacrificed that for his beliefs.

Edge said:

“They just think he compromised his principles. He didn’t at all. What he did compromise was his PR profile and his standing with the sort of fundamentalists who would never be open to receiving help from people they didn’t agree with. In the end, I think facts bear out his approach.”

Bono’s commitment to political activism and social issues has been a defining aspect of his public persona for many years. While this has had an impact on his career as a musician, it is clear that Bono’s beliefs and values are more important to him than his public image. His bandmate, Edge, acknowledges the risks that Bono has taken but also recognizes the importance of standing up for one’s principles, even in the face of criticism.
