Trivium has announced an exciting development regarding their drummer situation. The announcement was shared on Trivium’s official Instagram.
The band recently had drummer Greyson Nekrutman step in for their performance at Aftershock Festival. However, scheduling conflicts made it impossible for him to continue with their upcoming North American tour. In a heartfelt message, the band expressed their gratitude for his contributions and respect for his musicianship.
“We want to sincerely thank Greyson Nekrutman for stepping in and crushing it with us at Aftershock Festival,” the band said. “It was an honor to share the stage with such a powerhouse talent. We’re grateful to both Greyson and Sepultura for making it possible.”
The band explained that as they prepare for their North American tour with Jinjer and Heriot, they also need to begin writing sessions for their next album. They needed a drummer with greater availability for both commitments.
“As we look ahead to our North American tour with Jinjer and Heriot and into a new album cycle, the realities of scheduling made it clear that Greyson wouldn’t be able to continue with us for the tour,” Trivium stated. “There’s nothing but respect between us — Greyson is a humble, confident, and passionate musician, and we’ll always be fans.”
The band has now reconnected with Alex Rudinger, formerly of Whitechapel. He will join them for the tour and upcoming album writing sessions. Notably, Trivium had invited Rudinger to join the band nine years ago, but timing prevented the collaboration at that moment.
“We’re excited to share that we’ve reconnected with a drummer we’ve known for over a decade — Alex Rudinger (formerly of Whitechapel),” the band said. “We asked Alex to join Trivium nine years ago, but the timing didn’t align. Alex Rudinger will join us on tour starting next week and will be part of our writing sessions for the next Trivium record. We’re thrilled to finally share the stage with him and explore what’s ahead.”
This reunion marks a significant moment for Trivium. The band finally brings together a partnership that was nearly a decade in the making. Blabbermouth reported that Rudinger and Trivium have known each other for more than a decade. The initial invitation occurred approximately nine years ago when circumstances prevented the collaboration.
Rudinger’s drumming credentials are well-established in the metal community. He previously served as the drummer for Whitechapel from 2019 to 2021, as noted by Lambgoat. During his time with the band, he honed his skills in one of metal’s most demanding technical groups. His experience with such a high-caliber group makes him an ideal fit for Trivium’s complex and progressive sound.
The timing of this announcement comes as Trivium navigates changes in their lineup. Metal Sucks noted that this tour follows the departure of Trivium’s longtime drummer Alex Bent earlier in 2025. Rudinger’s recruitment is a crucial step in stabilizing the band’s rhythm section for their ambitious touring and recording plans.
Rudinger has already begun preparing for his new role with dedication and enthusiasm. The Music reported that Rudinger expressed excitement about joining Trivium. He has spent significant time learning over 14 songs to prepare for the tour and upcoming music writing sessions. This level of preparation demonstrates his commitment to delivering a seamless transition for the band as they move forward with their North American tour and new album cycle.
