This is the third year in a row that Dave Grohl has celebrated Hanukkah with a show. The Foo Fighters frontman teamed up with his long-time friend and producer Greg Kurstin to cover songs that famous Jewish artists have released over the years. One of the biggest stars on the list was no other than Pink, who came out with a bang to perform ‘Get The Party Started’ with the band.
Grohl and Kurstin’s first attempt at ‘Hanukkah Sessions’ was back in 2020. The pair had aimed to celebrate the holiday by sharing eight covers of songs by Jewish artists. It became a show that fans latched onto, so they decided to take on the challenge once again.
This year’s performance was recorded in front of a live audience at the iconic Largo in Los Angeles on December 5. For the first night of ‘Hanukkah Sessions,’ filmmaker director Judd Apatow sang the opening number with a cover of Blood, Sweat and Tears’ ‘Spinning Wheel.’
Foo Fighters took to Instagram to announce the opening act, Judd Apatow. They wrote, “A little blood and plenty of schvitz went into this year’s Hanukkah Sessions— but the only tears you’ll be shedding will be tears of nachas when you hear Judd Apatow sing ‘Spinning Wheel’ by Blood, Sweat & (No) Tears!”
Apatow left the stage for Pink to sing her 2001 hit song for the second night. Foo Fighters praised the singer on Instagram for coming in and showing them how to ‘Get The Party Started.’ They wrote, “One of the music world’s biggest and brightest stars of David, Pink shows a couple of schmendricks how it’s done by joining us for her very own Bat Mitzvah staple, ‘Get The Party Started!’”
Other incredible artists like Violet Grohl, Beck, Karen O, Jack Black, and Kyle Gass also performed at the show, which probably will be released soon. Another fun fact about the ‘Hanukkah Sessions’ is that the profits from the event went to the Anti-Defamation League, which is another reason many praised Grohl and Kurstin for organizing this event and supporting the Jewish community.
