Iommi’s Instagram post is a photo taken at a lunch outing between the two longtime friends and their wives. During this double date, the pair reportedly spent hours catching up. Iommi described the gathering in the caption of his post.

“Maria and I met up with my dear friend Ian Anderson and his wife Shona last Thursday for lunch,” Iommi wrote. “We had a fabulous time, and we very much enjoyed our day. We talked for hours! Brilliant!”

The post quickly drew attention from fans, and many speculated about a potential musical project between the two rock legends. One fan asked, “Did he try to get you to join his band again?” Another envisioned a joint performance, writing, “Imagine a collab like this: Ian at the mic and flute and Tony killing it in the 6 strings.” A third fan added, “A collaboration? Anderson and Iommi—why not? That’s a story that could have another chapter.”

The timing of the reunion adds an extra layer of intrigue, especially considering what each musician has been up to lately.

Iommi is currently gearing up for the release of his new solo album, “From the Dark,” due out October 23. The record marks his first solo effort in more than two decades. It is led by the single “World Alone,” which has already been released alongside a music video.

Anderson and Iommi share a long history that predates this recent lunch reunion. The two previously worked together during Jethro Tull’s “The Epic Eclectic” era, giving fans additional reason to believe a future collaboration isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

Both musicians remain active in the industry despite their decades-long careers, and that only fuels speculation about what a potential team-up between the two could look like.

Still, nothing beyond the lunch reunion has been confirmed. Whether the two legendary musicians take their friendship into the studio remains to be seen. The excitement among fans shows no signs of slowing down.

No official announcement regarding a collaboration has been made. Further updates may follow.
