Tom Morello Releases New Single Featuring Pussy Riot, Bloody Beetroots And Mish Way From His Upcoming Album

Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello recently posted a video on his Instagram account and announced the release of his latest track ‘Radium Girls‘ in collaboration with the Bloody Beetroots, Pussy Riot, Aimee Interrupter, Mish Way, and Delila Paz.

As you may recall, some days ago Tom Morello had announced a new collaborative project with The Blood Beetroots. RATM’s iconic guitarist and the punk-fueled electronic artist have been working on a seven-track EP named The Catastrophists which will be released on June 18.

With his recent Instagram post, Morello announced the release of their first single ‘Radium Girls’ from their upcoming EP and shared the real story which inspired the creation of this song.

As you may know, ‘one of the most heinous crimes in US industrial history’ was committed against the young girls working in Radium Dial Company back in the 1920s. Young Illinois factory workers used highly toxic radium-laced paint to make glow-in-the-dark watches and they were encouraged to lick the paintbrushes to point so as to ‘increase productivity and profit.’

In the end, their bones started falling apart from cancer and their bodies were so toxic that they had to be buried in lead-lined coffins. This monstrous incident led to the nationwide labor protection legislation, and Tom Morello decided to collaborate with some amazing women to pay tribute to these ‘quiet heroes.’

Here’s what Tom Morello said in the caption of his post:

“‘Radium Girls’

My new collaborative project ‘The Catastrophists EP’ with the bloody beetroots out June 18! First single ‘Radium Girls’ featuring Pussy Riot, Aimee Interrupter, Mish Way, and The Last Internationale out now!

Four extraordinary women (Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova, The Interrupters’ Aimee Interrupter, White Lung’s Mish Way, The Last International’s Delila Paz) and the ferocious production of The Bloody Beetroots breathe life into the true story of the Radium Girls, young Illinois factory workers who were the victims of one of the most heinous crimes in US industrial history. I spent every summer as a kid near Ottawa, Illinois where these doomed girls used deadly radium-laced paint to make glow-in-the-dark watches.

They were encouraged to lick the paintbrushes to a point to increase productivity and profit and in the end, their bones literally fell apart from cancer and they were so toxic they had to be buried in lead-lined coffins. The resulting court cases and publicity led to historic nationwide labor protection legislation. Every year I place flowers at the small monument to these quiet heroes and this song is dedicated to their memory.
