Pete Townshend is back more dramatically than ever. Having released his last single 29 years ago, The Who star has taken the step of putting out the single ‘Can’t Outrun the Truth,’ and it’s not even for his benefit. The Who leader got help from his wife and was inspired by the global pandemic that strongly hit the world for two years. Moreover, the song’s gains are dedicated to Townshend’s charity Teenage Cancer Trust.

Aside from working with his band, The Who, the musician has been active in his solo career in his earlier years. Yet, he hasn’t blessed his fans with an album since 1993’s ‘Psychoderelict.’ Very recently, he released a single, ‘Can’t Outrun the Truth,’ which he created in collaboration with his wife, Rachel Fuller. The song depicts the emotions of the global pandemic that portrayed his feelings very genuinely.

The lyrics read:

“This lockdown is bringing me down
My mind’s gone underground
Though I crawl from room to room
I can’t leave myself behind.

Rachel Fuller has spoken about the creative process and opened up about her and Townshend’s mood at the time of creation. She said that it was a hard time to be creative, yet managed to come up with these reflective lyrics. She didn’t forget to mention that this period was difficult for them, as it was for many people around the world.

Fuller said:

“We’d just moved house, and Pete was as happy as Larry up in his studio, working every day, and I put my back out. I was just climbing the walls; I couldn’t do any creative work, and obviously, we couldn’t go anywhere. And I really started to think about how unbelievably difficult this period of time was going to be for so many people.”

Although everyone went through a difficult time, and being at home limited people’s talents and skills, Townshend and Fuller seem to have dealt with it in the best way they know they could. Now, the fans have a new single from the icon after 29 years, and they couldn’t be happier.
