The Destroyers recently shared a statement on behalf of guitarist George Thorogood, disclosing they needed to cancel their upcoming shows due to the rocker’s deteriorating health.

The statement was brief and didn’t reveal much about Thorogood’s ongoing health struggles, simply sharing that the 73-year-old guitarist had recently received a severe medical diagnosis requiring him to undergo an immediate operation and spent a few weeks away from the stage.

The band then continued by addressing the possibly disappointed fans by promising that Thorogood will be back performing again, assuring that the Destroyers hadn’t canceled their shows for good but had only postponed them for an unknown future date where George could rock without any other struggles or problems.

Thorogood and his bandmates had planned to take off for the next leg of the Destroyers’ 50th-anniversary tour in about two weeks, as a show in Vancouver was ready to take place. However, it seems that life had other plans, as this upsetting news overshadowed the celebratory tour.

The act’s official statement regarding George’s health and the cancelations of shows followed:

George has been diagnosed with a very serious medical condition that will require immediate surgery and quite a few weeks of recuperation and healing. You, our fans, mean the world to us, and we know this news is not want you wanted to hear, but rest assured, George Thorogood and The Destroyers will be back. We’ll keep you updated as we know more.”

It appears that Thorogood has to go under serious treatment to regain his health and be back on stage with the Destroyers, so it’s surely challenging for the fans and his bandmates to go through a period like this right when they were getting ready to start a tour.
