In a new interview with Lipps Service Podcast, The Offspring’s Dexter Holland named the best punk rock according to him.

“Creedence Clearwater,” the rocker responded to the question. When his bandmate Noodles said he wasn’t expecting to hear such an answer, Holland continued: “It was very anti-authority, anti-government and anti-war.”

Later, Noodles also shared his pick: “I was gonna go with T.S.O.L. I hate these ‘pick one [artist],’ because I can pick 100. At least ten, twenty bands that really mean a lot to me and inspired me.”

“But T.S.O.L. was probably the one band that inspired both me and Dexter in ways that made us want to be in a band and want to make the kind of music we’re still making today,” he added. The rocker also called his pick, “absolutely underrated.”

While the band is highly inspired by bands like Ramones, Sex Pistols, and Clash, and they later inspired bands like NOFX, Bad Religion, Rancid, and Pennywise; the rockers are aiming to be as big as Pearl Jam one day.

“We started as a punk band and people ask, ‘Are you a punk band? Are you a rock band?’ I don’t even know what exactly the right answer is anymore,” he explained during an earlier interview. “Maybe someplace in between but you don’t ask Pearl Jam if they’re a grunge band. They’re Pearl Jam, right?”

“I hope one day to attain that level where it’s just The Offspring but even in terms of punk, I think there were different kinds of punk bands that inspired us when we were younger,” Holland added.

The band released their 11th studio album ‘Supercharged’ last month. They will also perform in San Diego on November 16.
