Foo Fighters took the stage for their first festival performance of 2023. Emotions were high as the band highlighted the value of family with Taylor Hawkins at the core of their performance; Dave Grohl brought out the late drummer’s son Shane for their headlining set at Boston Calling.

Before playing a solo rendition of ‘Cold Day in the Sun,’ the song he used to sing with Taylor, Grohl shared a few words about the importance of family:

“We’ve been in this band so long; we really are a family. And our families are with us tonight because we need to do this together.”

Right after Dave finished singing the track, he welcomed Shane to the stage to join the band for ‘I’ll Stick Around.’ This wasn’t Shane’s first rodeo as the young drummer had played the drums with the Foo Fighters on ‘My Hero’ to pay homage to his father during the first show of the ‘Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert’ at London’s Wembley Stadium last year.

He also was a part of the second ‘Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert’ that took place at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, where he also played ‘My Hero’ and ‘I’ll Stick Around’ with the band.
