System Of A Down has announced their first full tour in seven years.
The band will tour South America in April and May, making stops in Bogotá, Lima, Santiago, Buenos Aires, Curitiba, Rio De Janeiro, and São Paulo. General sales start on December 19 at 12 p.m.
The announcement comes one week after the band revealed three North American stadium shows scheduled for August and September. They will perform at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with Korn, at Soldier Field in Chicago with Avenged Sevenfold, and at Rogers Stadium in Toronto with Deftones. Additional dates were added to each show due to high demand.
System Of A Down released their most recent albums, ‘Mezmerize’ and ‘Hypnotize,’ in 2005 and then took a hiatus. The band reunited in 2011 but has since preferred one-off concerts and festival appearances over extensive touring. In an interview with Revolver last year, singer Serj Tankian explained their decision.
“I’ve been touring for 20-something years, on and off, of course. Not every year,” the rocker explained. “And it’s fun, it’s profitable, it makes a lot of people happy in terms of being out there and sharing the music and [seeing] the reaction, and people really enjoying it and getting that feedback.”
“But after years of doing it and the travel that’s involved, it’s one of those things where it’s not the top priority on my list in life,” he added.
System Of A Down hasn’t released a new album since they reunited, even though fans highly showed signs of interest.
