Sum 41 recently released a reimagined version of ‘Catching Fire‘ in collaboration with TikTok musician nothing, nowhere aiming to break the stigma around mental health and raise awareness on suicide prevention during Mental Health Awareness month.
As you know, Sum 41 is a new generation rock band from Canada which was formed in 1996. They have released seven studio albums to this day and just some days ago, the band dropped their latest song ‘Catching Fire.’ Although the song was originally featured in their latest album Order in Decline, the band decided to reimagine it for a good cause.
In collaboration with the famous Tik Tok musician, nothing, nowhere, Sum 41 released this song hoping to stress the importance of suicide prevention. Following the release of the song, Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley revealed that he wrote the lyrics following his wife’s suicide attempt and that this song enabled them to have an open conversation about her experience.
Thus Deryck Whibley and nothing, nowhere decided to reimagine this song aiming to raise awareness during Mental Health Awareness Month. Sum 41 fans from every corner of the world shared their stories of loss which can be seen in the emotional black and white video which was appreciated by thousands of fans.
Here’s what Whibley said in the caption of his Facebook post:
“Writing this song was cathartic for me in dealing with my emotions for the first time about almost losing my wife to suicide. When I first played it for her, it was the beginning of us having an open conversation about what she went through. In sharing her story, we are hoping to let others know they are not alone and that if you need help, there is no shame in saying so.”
While nothing,nowhere said:
“As someone who has had to deal with mental illness throughout my life, it was a no-brainer when Deryck approached me to get on this song. I think it’s important to let those close to you know that you love them and that you are there for them unconditionally. I’m a lifelong SUM 41 fan and I’m honored to be a part of something like this.”
