Korn guitarist Brian Head Welch shared his thoughts about filming the music video for ‘Did My Time’ in a recent Instagram post.
The musician revealed both personal struggles and a disappointing aspect of the production during the video shoot featuring Hollywood star Angelina Jolie.
“Not gonna lie, this shoot was rough. I was in a dark place, and you can probably tell by how thin I looked,” Welch admitted. “Worst part about it was Angelina Jolie starred in the video and we didn’t even ever meet her!”
Music video productions often feature disconnected filming schedules. Artists and featured celebrities frequently film their scenes separately.
Welch’s behind-the-scenes revelation offers new perspective on the high-profile collaboration twenty years after its release.
Research from Wikipedia revealed the July 2003 release served as a promotional tie-in for “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.” Jolie starred in the leading role.
Acclaimed filmmaker Dave Meyers directed the distinctive video concept. IMVDb detailed how Jolie walks through an alley as the ground cracks beneath her. A black mist then transforms into the band members.
The track earned notable recognition in the industry. Wikipedia documented its Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance in 2004. Metallica’s “St. Anger” ultimately won the category.
The song later appeared on Korn’s sixth studio album, “Take a Look in the Mirror.” Its late 2003 release coincided with a period marked by Welch’s personal challenges.
