Steve Jones doesn’t plan to reunite with John Lydon in the Sex Pistols.
“We don’t talk,” Jones recently told Rolling Stone AU/NZ following Lydon’s statements about his former bandmates. “The last time I spoke to him was 2008. But I wish him all the best. I really do.”
He added, “We had a great time when we were young, and it was life-changing for all of us. But after the court case with ‘Pistol,’ it wasn’t even worth asking John [about the reunion tour]. I don’t think he was interested.”
Sex Pistols have been touring with Frank Carter as their new singer instead of Lydon. “I wrote the f*cking songs, didn’t I? I gave them the image as the frontman,” Lydon told Classic Album Review earlier this month about Sex Pistols’ new chapter with Carter. “I am the voice what made the whole world sing.”
The rocker continued his words, “Now you’re going out… As they did the year before with Billy Idol. It’s just karaoke really. I would love to be embarrassed by high-quality songwriting from them.”
“They’ve had long enough to get that together now, haven’t they? But no, they profess their hatred for me but they can’t live without me. I am the punishment that goes on giving [Laughs],” Lydon further stated.
Later, Lydon also joined an interview with Metro and discussed the possibility of a Sex Pistols reunion. He said, “No, I made that clear a long time ago. Yeah, they’re impossibly heart-turgid and difficult to deal with and just basically have very bad natures.”
“I think going out and doing this is in extremely poor taste. If you don’t want me around, that’s all well and fine, get your stand-up comedian in my place, but leave my words out of it, because it’s clear you don’t understand them,” the vocalist then shared.
Sex Pistols last played with Lydon in 2008. They toured the UK last autumn with Carter as singer. Before that, they played two small shows at London’s Bush Hall, performing ‘Never Mind the Bollocks’ in full.
They announced more 2025 shows, including Download Festival and the Teenage Cancer Trust event in London.
