Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones has confirmed he broke his wrist. This injury forced the legendary punk band to postpone their upcoming North and South American tour dates. The announcement was made through the band’s official social media channels, as reported by Carter Cook Jones Matlock.
The band shared Jones’ personal explanation of the situation. He delivered it with characteristic humor despite the unfortunate circumstances.
“I’ve got some good news and bad news. What do you want first? Okay, the bad news: I’ve broken my wrist, so unfortunately we won’t be doing any shows for a while,” Jones said. “The good news is the surgeon said I will be back playing guitar in the not-too-distant future.”
The guitarist also noted a personal milestone coinciding with the announcement.
“The other good news is I’ll be 70 tomorrow! God bless, and God save the wrist,” he continued.
The injury comes at a particularly significant time for the band. This tour marked their return to North American stages after more than two decades.
967 Bob FM reported that this was the Sex Pistols’ first North American tour in 22 years. The current lineup features three original members — Steve Jones on guitar, Paul Cook on drums, and Glen Matlock on bass. They are joined by vocalist Frank Carter, formerly of Gallows and Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, who replaced original frontman Johnny Rotten (John Lydon) for this tour cycle.
American Songwriter noted that the tour was originally scheduled to begin September 16 in Dallas at the historic Longhorn Ballroom. This venue holds special significance as it’s tied to the band’s infamous 1978 U.S. tour. This connection added historical weight to what was meant to be their comeback performance.
The band had planned to perform their iconic 1977 album Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols in its entirety during these shows. Frank Carter had expressed enthusiasm about the tour’s timing and relevance in today’s political climate.
“I think everybody needs this band right now. I think the world needs this band right now. And I think definitely America is screaming out for a band like the Sex Pistols,” Carter stated. X Rock 103.9 captured this quote.
The band’s official statement assured fans that the shows will be rescheduled once Jones has fully recovered. Fans are advised to check local venue websites and the band’s social media channels for updated tour information.
