Spiritbox vocalist Courtney LaPlante shared her thoughts on social media feedback in a recent interview with Paper Magazine.

“Social media is so strange. You used to wait for a review in the paper. If someone really didn’t like your band, or really liked your band, they would write you a letter. You’d get it a couple of weeks later,” LaPlante said.

“Now I just can open my phone. There’s probably a couple of texts being like, ‘I love you, Courtney, you did it!’ Then there’s someone else that’s like, ‘You’re a fat b*tch.’ And I’m just like, ‘Okay, here’s a picture of our dog,'” she continued.

LaPlante described her social media approach: “I think that’s why people feel so weird about it. It ain’t natural. I love it, though, because I get instant gratification. I can see what people think of it. I’m always guarded. I never engage with people unless it’s something that would be funny.”

“I felt this relief realizing that I really did care. For a while, I acted like I didn’t care, like I’m just making this for me! And if you don’t like it, you can get out,” she added. “I don’t feel desperate for people to like it. I feel so happy and rewarded that people understand what we were trying to do. We’re always like a ship trying to find its home in whatever sub-genre, not caring where we go. I feel relief that there are so many people, more than ever, who resonate with us.”

These comments emerge during a significant period for the band as they navigate their artistic journey and public presence.

Spiritbox unveiled their sophomore album ‘Tsunami Sea’ on March 7, 2025, through Pale Chord / Rise Records, as noted by Blabbermouth. The album follows their 2021 debut ‘Eternal Blue.’ It explores vulnerable themes, including success challenges and personal struggles.

Exclaim reported a recent incident where their single ‘Crystal Roses’ was released without authorization. LaPlante addressed this on X: “I don’t normally like to air out behind the scenes things like this. We did not approve putting out another single today. None of us were aware this was happening. I am extremely disappointed. I only found out about it late last night, by chance.”

The band maintains unwavering artistic integrity through these challenges. Blabbermouth highlighted LaPlante’s commitment to a traditional album rollout for ‘Tsunami Sea.’ She ensured a dramatic and climactic promotional effort despite various obstacles.
