Courtney LaPlante-fronted metal band Spiritbox has announced the release of their new single titled “Mourning.” Fans have shared their enthusiastic reactions to the track.
The band shared details of the release timing in an announcement on social media, confirming when fans could first hear the new track.
“Mourning – YouTube premiere 7:00PM PST,” the announcement read.
Following the release, fans took to social media to share their impressions of the new song, praising its emotional depth and the band’s musicianship.
“I don’t even know where to start, this song feels like a breath of fresh air,” one fan wrote. “It shows the versatility of this band, their musicianship and talent, the emotion. This is the most important. Their songs make you feel something. Thank you, Spiritbox.”
Another fan addressed initial concerns about the song’s softer sound, noting that it still retained the band’s signature style.
“I was afraid when people said that this song is softer because in this genre it usually means butt rock,” the fan said. “This song still carries the whole Spiritbox DNA just toned down to portray the feelings. Totally slaps!”
Several fans also singled out lead vocalist Courtney LaPlante’s performance on the track.

The release of “Mourning” arrives with a fuller picture behind the track. It also marks another busy stretch for the band and its frontwoman.
“Mourning” premiered on September 7 alongside an official music video, co-directed by Spiritbox guitarist Mike Stringer alongside Alex Bemis. Stringer also stepped into the producer’s chair for the track, working alongside the band’s longtime collaborator Dan Braunstein.
The single stands as Spiritbox’s first standalone release since “Tsunami Sea,” giving fans a fresh taste of new material outside the context of a full studio album. Its arrival is timed just ahead of the band’s upcoming fall headlining tour across Europe and the UK. “Mourning” is expected to find a home in their live set. The track also gives Spiritbox new material to potentially bring into their Australian festival appearances later this year.
Beyond “Mourning,” LaPlante has been busy on another high-profile project. She has teamed up with Bring Me the Horizon’s Oli Sykes and producer Grabbitz on a new anthem for the Valorant Champions 2026 tournament, titled “If The Sun Burns Out Tonight.” The track is set for release later this year to coincide with the Valorant Champions Shanghai 2026 Finals.
Spiritbox and its frontwoman continue to keep a steady presence in fans’ ears throughout 2026, between the surprise single, the upcoming tour dates, and LaPlante’s gaming crossover collaboration.
