Smashing Pumpkins Share An Update On Guitarist Search, No End In Sight

Smashing Pumpkins recently updated fans on their ongoing search for a new guitarist in an Instagram post.

The post, which included a group photo and the caption ‘Update,’ said:

“The band has received over 10,000 submissions for the position of additional guitarist. Currently, there are eight people working full-time to review each and everyone.”

The Initial Announcement For A New Guitarist

The hunt for a new guitarist began on January 5, when Smashing Pumpkins announced the vacancy through Instagram. This followed the departure of Jeff Schroeder, who had been with the band for 16 years. The band wrote the following in their announcement:

“The Smashing Pumpkins are in search of an additional guitarist. The application process is open to anyone who might be interested. Applicants may submit a resume and related material to SPGuitar@redlightmanagement.com.”

Jeff Schroeder’s Departure And Legacy

Last October, Schroeder announced his decision to leave Smashing Pumpkins. In a message on social media, he reflected on his time with the band and his decision to pursue a different path, stating:

“The amount of incredible memories created over the last 16 years with the band are almost too numerous to quantify. Although it was a very difficult decision to make, I’ve decided to leave the band to make some space to explore a slightly different path.”

The band also expressed their gratitude for his dedication and contribution over the years. Schroeder’s final performance with the band took place in September 2023 at Madame ZuZu’s Teahouse in Highland Park, Illinois.

With a busy schedule ahead, the Smashing Pumpkins are under pressure to find a new guitarist soon. Their European tour with Weezer is set to kick off in June, followed by the North American Saviors stadium tour alongside notable bands like Green Day and Rancid.
