Stacy Thomson shared an update from the studio in Southern California, where Slipknot is recording their new album, and offered some insight into the band’s mood during the sessions when fans asked her for spoilers on Instagram.
Thomson was posting from the recording location and noted her experience being there while the band works on the album. A fan in the comments asked her to reveal some details about what is happening in the studio.
Question: “Hi, Stacy. Give us some spoilers.”
“All I can say is that the vibe with everyone is finally so happy and positive,” Thomson responded. “And Mick always has a smile on his face when he talks about his guitar tones and recording sessions.”
She also mentioned the one thing she missed during her time away. “I actually love being here while Slipknot records the new album, but I’m definitely missing the Midwest autumn season,” Thomson said.
The comments come as Slipknot records their new material in California. The band’s current studio dynamic reflects a shift in the group’s situation.
Slipknot officially parted ways with keyboardist and DJ Sid Wilson on August 14, 2026, with the band posting that they would “no longer be associated with Sid Wilson” effective immediately. Wilson had been with the band for nearly 30 years, joining in 1998 as their keyboardist and turntablist before the band’s mainstream breakthrough with their self-titled debut. According to reports, the decision came after the group had concerns about how Wilson treated his bandmates.
The new album recording follows other recent changes to the band’s lineup. In June 2023, Slipknot split with longtime sampler and keyboardist Craig Jones, who was replaced by an unnamed musician. The band also dismissed drummer Jay Weinberg in November 2023 and brought in ex-Sepultura member Eloy Casagrande.
Slipknot are recording their eighth album with former Faith No More producer Matt Wallace. The band tracked on the floor live with drummer Eloy Casagrande, which was something they had not done in a long time. According to guitarist Jim Root, the upcoming album will “hurt some feelings” and the band is avoiding the over-production of some recent material.
