Sleep Token’s ‘Caramel’ Ripped By Metalcore Streamers: “It Sounds Like A Bad R&B Song”

2 Min Read

Famous metalcore streamer Metalcore Clownboy delivered harsh criticism of Sleep Token’s latest release “Caramel.”

“Sleep Token’s new track is out — ‘Caramel.’ God, how has this band gotten even more boring since their last album?” they stated. “Like, seriously, the chorus — ‘stick me like a caramel’? It sounds like a bad R&B song.”

“What is going on here? The guitars sound terrible. This song should be illegal,” they continued. “Who does this appeal to? I’m sorry, but if this is your idea of metal, you either have the blandest taste in the genre, or you’re just listening to pop. Just put on a pop song and have some fun.”

Post-Hardcore Cowboy echoed these sentiments. “This is the blandest type of metal to listen to,” they said. “Just listen to pop music if you’re looking for choruses / squeaky clean production. Sleep Token is not metalcore.”

The criticisms emerged alongside the band’s latest single release, marking a new chapter in their musical journey.

Kerrang revealed that Sleep Token released “Caramel” on April 4, 2025. The track serves as the second single from their upcoming album “Even In Arcadia,” set to launch on May 9, 2025.

Music publication Vinyl Me Please highlighted the song’s strengths. Critics praised its introspective lyrics and sonic complexity. The track explores themes of identity and the tension between personal authenticity and public perception.

Blabbermouth documented the band’s recent success. Their previous single “Emergence” topped both the iTunes charts and the Billboard Hot Hard Rock charts.

Loudwire detailed the band’s stylistic evolution from their metal foundations. “Caramel” builds slowly and incorporates pop and dance elements. The song culminates in a crushing atmospheric chorus. This structure demonstrates the band’s skill in blending diverse musical elements.
