Slaughter to Prevail frontman Alex Terrible recently addressed backlash over comments he made toward the trans community, walking back his stance and removing the posts in question.
The singer had spoken out after reports that protesters attempted to get his band’s Bloodstock Festival performance canceled over his previous remarks about the trans community. Terrible initially expressed confusion over what exactly he was being asked to apologize for.
“I apologize to the trans community for the fact that we played Bloodstock,” Alex Terrible said. “It was completely sold out and people actually enjoyed our performance. I genuinely don’t understand what I’m supposed to apologize to the trans community for. Can someone please explain it to me? I’ll apologize, no problem. I’m not too proud to do it.”
He went on to describe the circumstances surrounding the protest and his general attitude toward criticism.
“I was told they even protested to try to get our performance canceled before we went onstage,” he continued. “I understand that not everyone likes us, and that we especially don’t appeal to people those who lack critical thinking. But that’s okay. I used to be like that myself. The important thing is to keep changing for the better. And that’s what I wish for everyone.”
A fan then responded to the statement. The fan argued that the singer was misreading the criticism as a personal attack rather than an appeal for empathy, and noted that his posts were fueling harassment against trans fans of the band.
“Look man, I’m a fan,” the fan wrote. “I really do think you’re too upset to understand what I’m saying. This was never an attack. More like an appeal. You’re more upset at people like me who are trying to put things into perspective than the people who are commenting horrible hateful things about trans people. What if they commented stuff about your kids or wife? Thankfully they’re not, and your wife deserves no hate. Much like many trans fan who support you but now are the object of cyber bullying due to your recent posts. What I mean is, your posts are inciting hate. They are encouraging cyber bullying. The internet is real and that’s why you’re upset and reacting the way you are.”
Terrible replied to the fan’s message. He ultimately acknowledged the concern and announced that he had deleted his earlier posts.
“I never think that way actually,” Alex Terrible said. “I act that way cause I can defend myself. I don’t mind that I have a lot of faith in the internet, I just know how to deal with it because I’m dealing with it for 10 years already… I can stand for myself and my family, but actually this man or girl is right because a lot of people might get bullied because of my posts or how I act and a lot of people might attack them and I don’t want that. I don’t want it at all and I didn’t think about that.”
He continued, explaining his decision to remove the posts and his broader intentions moving forward.
“I judge on myself cause I can defend on myself,” he said. “So f*ck all this drama. F*ck all these posts. I just deleted it. And I truly want to bring peace with my music and show motivation to be stronger, to be a better version of myself who can protect people who can’t protect themselves. I don’t want to be that guy who put something negative, bullying and f*cking people attacking each other. I don’t want this drama at all. I’m just defending myself guys because I don’t understand this hate about myself.”
Terrible removed the controversial posts from his account following the exchange.
This is far from the first time Alex Terrible’s rhetoric has stirred controversy within the metal community. The recent Bloodstock backlash appears to tie back to a pattern of comments that have followed the frontman for years.
Much of the friction traces back to a 2023 post titled “4 Rules of a Real Man,” which drew widespread accusations of homophobia at the time. The post has continued to resurface whenever Terrible’s name comes up in discussions about the trans community and broader LGBTQ+ issues.
Terrible’s public image has also been shadowed by allegations tied to extremist and far-right associations, along with scrutiny over his tattoos. These issues, beyond the gender-related controversies, continue to be brought up whenever Slaughter to Prevail makes headlines.
The controversy surrounding Terrible has extended beyond his own statements and into the bands associated with Slaughter to Prevail. The group announced Rev3rent as support for their upcoming fall North American tour, and the deathcore band faced immediate backlash from fans wary of any association with Terrible’s history. This prompted him to respond directly to the criticism.
“I don’t want to hurt anyone’s reputation,” Alex Terrible said, addressing the uproar over Rev3rent’s inclusion on the tour and distancing the up-and-coming band from the controversies that have followed his own name.
