Skid Row has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Sweetwater to conduct a worldwide search for their next lead vocalist, as reported on Instagram. This initiative comes after the band was unable to find a suitable replacement through traditional methods.

The band made an official announcement outlining their new approach to finding their next frontman.

“Skid Row has partnered with Sweetwater to launch a worldwide search for their next lead vocalist,” the band announced. “Auditions open today, marking the beginning of a new chapter.”

The search parameters emphasize the band’s commitment to finding the right fit regardless of geographic location or timeline constraints.

“Open to singers worldwide,” they continued. “No submission deadline. Submissions reviewed until the right singer is found. If you’ve got the voice, the attitude, and the fire — step up.”

This partnership represents a first-of-its-kind collaboration between a major rock band and the U.S. music equipment company Sweetwater for vocalist recruitment purposes.

The worldwide search comes after a challenging period for the band following the departure of their most recent vocalist. Blabbermouth reported that Erik Grönwall left the band in March 2024 due to health concerns related to his recovery from acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This departure left the iconic rock band once again searching for a frontman to carry their legacy forward.

The band’s vocal history spans decades, beginning with their most famous era. Ultimate Classic Rock noted that Sebastian Bach fronted Skid Row during their peak years in the late ’80s and early ’90s. He led the band through multi-platinum albums like “Skid Row” (1989) and “Slave to the Grind” (1991). Bach’s departure in 1996 marked the beginning of the band’s ongoing search for vocal stability.

Following Bach’s exit, the band experienced multiple lineup changes over the years. Parade detailed that after a brief hiatus, Skid Row returned in 1999 with Johnny Solinger as lead vocalist. Solinger fronted the band for 16 years in one of the longest tenures in the band’s post-Bach era. Solinger held the position until 2015, when he was replaced by other vocalists leading up to Grönwall’s brief stint.

The current audition process requires specific submissions from potential candidates. Sweetwater outlined that singers must record themselves performing Skid Row classics “18 and Life” and “Monkey Business” and upload their submissions via Sweetwater.com. The band has made it clear there is no deadline, as they will wait until they find the right singer to lead them into their next chapter.

Recent performances have featured temporary solutions while the search continues. BraveWords revealed that the band has performed recent shows with Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale as a temporary fill-in. This demonstrates their commitment to continuing live performances while seeking a permanent replacement.
