Sevendust drummer Morgan Rose recently opened up about the band’s previous breakup plans. He revealed that retirement was genuinely considered before their fifteenth album ‘One’ was released, as discussed in an interview with Damian FitzGerald.
Rose addressed recent statements about the band’s future. He explained the reasoning behind their initial retirement discussions.
“There’s this big quote going around [from a recent interview] where I said that we were gonna retire after the next record, or after this record that we’ve just done, and that’s just a fact,” Rose said. “It was discussed. It was absolutely discussed. I don’t have to go back into it again and rehash it, but the reason behind it was that we really don’t have anywhere to go. Who in their right mind do you think would go on their fifteenth record and say, ‘Let’s commit to trying to open up the rest of the world’? And it was us. We decided that was it.”
However, the band ultimately chose a different path. They decided to explore international markets instead of calling it quits.
“We were, like, ‘Okay, there’s another option here. Instead of wrapping it up and just doing a farewell run in the United States, let’s just bag that and put that in the back for a while, and let’s see what happens if we go and try to see if there are people that care about us around the rest of the world. And the first stop was Europe and the U.K., and it was massive. And we were, like, ‘Shit. Looks like we’re gonna park it in the U.K. and Europe for the next few years,'” Rose continued.
The success of their European venture has now shaped the band’s future touring plans.
“So now that’s being set up for us to do multiple trips back over the next few years… I know that there’s definitely talk of two or three more trips over to Europe before the end of ’27,” Rose added.
The band’s album ‘One’ was released on May 1, 2026. This marked a turning point that led them away from retirement and toward international expansion.
Rose’s revelations come at a significant moment in Sevendust’s career. The Atlanta quintet has just released their milestone fifteenth studio album through a major partnership.
Season of Mist reported that the iconic Atlanta quintet released ‘ONE’ on May 1, 2026, via Napalm Records. The album features production work by Michael “Elvis” Baskette, who is known for his collaborations with Alter Bridge and Falling In Reverse. The 10-track album includes songs such as “Unbreakable,” “Is This The Real You,” and “Threshold.” It showcases the band’s continued evolution after more than two decades in the metal scene.
The timing of Rose’s retirement discussions becomes even more poignant when considering the band’s current touring commitments. Side Stage Magazine noted that Sevendust launched their ONE album tour on April 28, 2026, at the Dallas House of Blues. The tour features an ambitious schedule that includes 18 US tour stops and 16 European dates planned for fall 2026. This extensive touring plan directly reflects Rose’s comments about the band’s decision to focus on international expansion rather than retirement.
The album has been receiving positive reception from critics and fans alike. Rock ‘N’ Load Magazine described ‘ONE’ as “an album of exceptional quality, from start to finish, there isn’t a weak track on the album.” This suggests that the band’s decision to continue rather than retire has resulted in some of their strongest material to date.
The current Sevendust lineup features Lajon Witherspoon on vocals, Clint Lowery and John Connolly on lead guitars with backing vocals, Vince Hornsby on bass, and Morgan Rose on drums. Metal Insider confirmed this stable lineup has been the driving force behind the band’s longevity and their ability to continue creating music that resonates with both longtime fans and new audiences, particularly in the international markets they’re now actively pursuing.
