Selena Gomez Was Obsessed With Kurt Cobain: ‘I Saw His Documentary 12 Times’

During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Selena Gomez was asked whether she had an obsession with any musicians during her childhood, and her answer was a bit surprising for her fans. Gomez was apparently a superfan of the late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. The pop singer explained:

“Kurt Cobain. My mom obviously would play all kinds of music for me growing up. I kind of got obsessed and dyed my hair and cut my hair like him.”

In addition to copying Cobain’s hairstyle, Selena admitted that she tried to learn everything about the Grunge singer. She continued:

“I know a little too much. I would rewatch his interviews, I would watch his performances, I had seen his documentary, like 12 times.”

Gomez Had A Rock Band Called The Scene

Did you know Selena Gomez was once the lead singer of a pop-rock band? Yes, the pop star once tried a career as a rock vocalist; however, her band, The Scene, remained active for only four years. Selena joined an interview with MTV in 2008 and detailed her plans for The Scene:

“I’m going to be in a band — no Selena Gomez stuff. I’m not going to be a solo artist. I think that I don’t want my name attached to it. I basically want to make music that is fun and that parents and kids can jump around to and have a good time too. I will be singing, and I’m learning drums and playing electric guitar.”

Despite Selena Gomez’s brief stint in the rock music scene, her enduring passion for the genre, particularly Nirvana, remains evident.
