Sebastian Bach recently clarified a long-standing story involving Pantera’s Dimebag Darrell and Skid Row’s Dave “Snake” Sabo. He addressed misconceptions about a hotel incident in a statement shared on Sense Music Media.
The former Skid Row frontman provided details about what actually happened during the infamous hotel incident that led to the band being kicked out.
“I remember being on the bus pulling into Philadelphia, and we got a call and they go, ‘We’ve been kicked out of the hotel,'” Bach said. “I go, ‘What do you mean? I’m not even f*cking there yet. How can I get kicked out if I’m not there?’ And they go, ‘Well, Dimebag and Snake did acid.'”
Bach continued to explain the circumstances that led to the hotel ejection.
“This is going way back. It’s a different time, but they go, ‘Dimebag and Snake did acid and Dimebag got a knife out and stabbed the couch in the lobby of the hotel,'” he said. “I go, ‘Holy f*ck, man.’ So there are a couple of stories that are pretty crazy like that. But he didn’t stab any people, just a couch.”
The clarification puts to rest any speculation about violence between the musicians. It confirms that only hotel furniture was harmed in the incident.
Metal Injection reported that the hotel was the Intercontinental in Philadelphia, a posh location where the knife incident took place while the two musicians were under the influence of acid. The upscale setting made the bizarre behavior even more shocking to hotel staff and guests.
Dimebag Darrell was widely known for his wild personality and unpredictable stage antics throughout his career. Metal Injection noted that he once donned large paper-mâché wings during a concert. This showcased the theatrical side that made him a beloved figure in the metal community. These spontaneous moments became part of his legendary status among fans.
The friendship between Dimebag and Dave Sabo extended far beyond their shared wild adventures. Guitar World revealed that the two musicians also competed in an Ace Frehley look-alike contest. This demonstrated their shared admiration for the Kiss guitarist and their playful rivalry that characterized their relationship.
The Philadelphia hotel incident occurred during an era when rock and metal musicians were known for their excessive behavior on tour. Louder Sound documented that Skid Row’s touring lifestyle during this period was marked by numerous similar incidents that became part of rock folklore. Few involved actual property damage like the couch-stabbing episode.
