Scott Stapp thinks Creed made a comeback like Aerosmith.
“What other bands have had this kind of resurgence,” the frontman told Loudwire Nights in a recent interview. “We go from being gone to coming back bigger than we were before.”
He continued, referring to the Doors and Aerosmith, “To be on that list with those two [bands] — and probably some others I’m leaving out — is an honor and a privilege.”
“I don’t want to sound cliche…but it epitomizes and defines what I’m feeling inside. That’s just gratitude. I never would have thought after we went away that this was even possible,” Stapp further shared about the reaction to the Creed reunion.
Stapp said he never thought about Creed reuniting when he started his solo career. The singer said, “[I was] slugging it out in clubs, starting all over again as if Creed never happened.”
He added, “I never would have thought that I would get to this moment where there was such synergy, where my solo career finally takes off and begins to connect in a profound way, and at the same time, Creed has its resurgence and its music is connecting with an entirely new generation.”
“I couldn’t have prayed for a better scenario. It’s just a beautiful thing. I’m in the moment. I’m so grateful for it,” Scott also explained.
Creed reunited in 2023 for their first tour since 2012. Their successful ‘Summer of ’99’ cruises led to more shows in the fall. Stapp said on ‘The Bobby Bones Show’ in November that he was surprised by the positive response.
The rocker stated, “I had no expectations of it ever coming back as big as it has. I mean, the last tour was sold out. We were doing 20-plus thousand a night. It was crazy. And I was grateful. There were moments, man, where my eyes were just watering with gratitude…”
He went on to say, “Just because I know what it’s like to have it, and I know what it’s like to not. And so there’s a much greater appreciation and respect for everything and everyone around me. It takes a village.”
Creed’s Summer of ’99 Tour starts on July 9 and ends on August 20. Mammoth WVH will open all shows. 3 Doors Down or Daughtry will join at some U.S. stops, while Big Wreck will play in Canada.
