In a new interview with VWMusic, Sammy Hagar’s son Andrew described carrying the Hagar name as both a blessing and a curse. Andrew, himself a musician, complained that he was often faced with prejudice because of his father’s fame and his history with Van Halen. About being an artist with the name Hagar, Andrew said:
“I think it makes it even more challenging because you have this weird push and pull with people where they have these certain expectations having the Hagar name. It’s like people who really love and appreciate my dad and his iteration of Van Halen want to hear that from me and when I don’t deliver it, they’re disappointed. It’s something I’ve been dealing with my whole life where people have preconceived expectations of me, so, it’s a blessing and a curse.”
Sammy Hagar Didn’t Expect His Son To Be A Musician

Sammy Hagar thought his son would be a martial artist, not a rock star. In an interview with Fox News this June, Sammy Hagar revealed that he did not expect his son Andrew to have a music career. Sammy said:
“I never thought he was going to be a musician until about 10 years ago. He wasn’t, like, when he was a kid, always playing guitar. He was more of a martial artist, you know? And I thought for sure that’s what he’s going to do.”
Hagar was surprised by his son’s talent. He continued:
“It blew my mind how good his songs were and how good his lyrics were and his melodic sense and the fact that he played guitar. I said, ‘When did you start playing guitar?’ I mean, he didn’t live at my house, so I didn’t see it. But we see each other all the time.”
