In a recent post on Instagram, Sammy Hagar recalled the Van Halen show where they were pranked by the Alice In Chains members. During their opening show for Van Halen, Alice In Chains got back on stage while Van Halen was performing and pranked them by getting on stage nearly naked.

To reminisce about the moment, Hagar recently shared a picture from the live show, where Alice In Chains members are seen almost completely naked, dancing with Hagar while Eddie Van Halen is smiling in shock. He wrote under the picture:

“In VH, I think we might have had more fun with Alice In Chains on tour than any band that toured with us. I believe this was in Seattle, probably the last show of the leg, but whatever, this kind of shit went on every night. I sincerely miss Layne Staley, soulful vocals and Jerry & I have remained very close friends. Absolutely love these guys!”

The Advice Hagar Gave To Alice In Chains

Alice In Chains opened for Van Halen’s 1991 ‘For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge’ tour, where they struggled a little to make themselves recognizable to the crowd. After their debut album ‘Facelift’ was released, the band slowly started to gain recognition, especially after ‘Man In The Box’ became popular. Still, they were having a hard time getting recognized when they opened for shows.

That’s when Hagar stepped in to suggest that rather than saving their hits for the last minutes of their set, they should use them as the openers so the audience would know who they were. According to Hagar’s words, the band created a setlist that mostly included ‘deeper tracks.’ They opened with ‘Real Thing,’ and followed with ‘I Know Somethin’ (‘Bout You),’ ‘Put You Down,’ and ‘We Die Young.’

Though the members were energetic, the audience was not. After listening to Hagar’s advice to start the set with ‘Man In The Box,’ Alice In Chains grew significantly and gained success.
