Sammy Hagar Names The Wolfgang Van Halen Song That He Couldn’t Get Out Of His Head

Former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar opened up about his late bandmate Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolfgang Van Halen during his interview with Ultimate Classic Rock Podcast. Hagar also reflected his ideas about Wolf’s debut album and one of its tracks ‘Distance.’

As you probably know, Even though he founded his solo band Mammoth WVH the years before his father’s death, Wolf chose to spend time with his father whose health was getting worse and worse. Wolfgang Van Halen decided to focus on his solo career after his father Eddie Van Halen’s death in 2020. Later, Wolf announced that he will release his self-titled solo studio album very soon.

His solo band Mammoth WVH released its debut studio album on June 11, 2021, before the album’s release Wolf shared six singles from the album with his fans. The first single was ‘Distance,’ which was released on November 16, 2020, as a tribute to his late father Eddie Van Halen who passed away a month ago. The song received very positive reviews from the other musicians and fans.

As one of them, Sammy Hagar, who knew Wolf since he was a little kid, praised Wolf’s debut studio album and its first single ‘Distance’ in his recent interview. Hagar stated that Wolf cannot be only considered as Van Halen legend’s son anymore by showing what he achieved with his solo band as proof. He emphasized Wolf’s remarkable voice and defined ‘Distance’ as a haunting song.

Sammy Hagar said in his interview that:

“No, I haven’t had time to spend time with myself since the pandemic is over, but I’ve listened, I’ve heard six tracks, and I got to tell you, everybody wants to know, ‘What do you think about it?’

I think it’s great, I think Wolfie did a great job of scooting around the Van Halen issue, complete kudos from me for that – that could’ve bitten him in the ass, and I think he’s doing the completely right thing.

However, the most impressive thing is his voice. I love his voice. It’s soulful. He’s got a very unique voice. When I hear a song now, I know it’s him, and we’re talking about, how long have we been listening to Wolfie sing? Not very long.

He’s got a strong identity, and I just love it, he’s got soul, man. It sounds real, I don’t know, kind of haunting, that first song, ‘Distance,’ was just haunting.

I couldn’t get that song out of my head. Yeah, I think he’s really good. As I said, I’m mostly impressed that he went around the Van Halen thing.”
