Sammy Hagar hinted at a possible Metallica collaboration on Instagram.
“Music can make a difference,” the Red Rocker captioned his post, sharing some photos from his recent performance at Metallica’s fourth Helping Hands Concert and Auction.
“It would be amazing for you to record something together; a beautiful gift for us fans of these beasts; real monsters of Rock,” a fan wrote in the comments. Hagar replied, “Kirk and I are talking about us.”
Metallica held their fourth Helping Hands Concert and Auction on Friday, December 13 in Los Angeles. The event featured performances by Sammy Hagar, SistaStrings, and Metallica.
All proceeds from tickets and the auction supported Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation, which partners with various charities. Jimmy Kimmel hosted the show, with guests like Slash and Tom Morello.
Hagar performed with his band: Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani, and Kenny Aronoff. They played songs from Van Halen, Chickenfoot, Montrose, and Hagar’s solo career.
Metallica played two sets, one acoustic and one electric. They were joined by SistaStrings, Avi Vincour, and Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament. The band started the acoustic set with ‘Low Man’s Lyric,’ played for the first time since 1998. They also performed ‘The Unforgiven II,’ last played in 2015.
The set included Bachman–Turner Overdrive’s ‘Away From Home,’ Diamond Head’s ‘Helpless,’ and ‘Hit The Lights’ with Ament. Other songs in the setlist were ‘If Darkness Had a Son,’ ‘Nothing Else Matters,’ ‘Orion,’ ‘The Shortest Straw,’ ‘Until it Sleeps,’ ‘Screaming Suicide,’ ‘Fuel,’ and ‘Master of Puppets.’
All Within My Hands Foundation started in 2017. It helps communities by supporting education, fighting hunger, and offering local aid. The foundation has raised over $15 million. This includes $8.2 million for job training programs like the Metallica Scholars Initiative. It has also given $3.6 million to fight hunger and $3.5 million for disaster relief.
Metallica’s M72 World Tour will continue in 2025, starting in North America on April 19 in Syracuse, New York. Sammy has four solo shows and a Las Vegas residency with his band, The Best of All Worlds, planned for early 2025.
