Sammy Hagar Breaks Silence On Roth – Wolfgang VH Dispute
In a recent conversation with People, ahead of MusiCares’ Person of the Year ceremony and concert held in honor of Jon Bon Jovi at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Sammy Hagar shared his thoughts on the escalating tension between David Lee Roth and Wolfgang Van Halen.
According to the Red Rocker, DLR’s words about Wolfgang, which were made public in a viral YouTube video, indicate underlying jealousy. He commented:
“Look, if you really think about what he said, it’s like, do I sense a little tinge of jealousy in there or something? Does he feel like he’s left out or something? I mean, honestly, the only thing I can say without being cruel is he needs to find a new dispensary. That one’s not working for him.”
Roth’s Viral Attack On Wolfgang
The issue started with a YouTube video called ‘This Crazy Kid..,’ where Roth criticized Wolfgang for supposedly complaining about not getting enough attention during their shows. Roth talked about times he thought Wolfgang was causing problems, especially on a tour when Wolfgang shared his complaints with many team members. Diamond Dave expressed his frustration with the following words:
“This f*cking kid, he’s complaining the entire tour like I’m not paying enough attention to him on stage. Like Santa Claus coming down the chimney and popping out on Christmas with nobody paying attention. Shalom to the dome, homie. I’m giving him the best. Everything I’ve got in front of twenty, thirty thousand people at a clip, and he’s complaining to everybody around me — the business manager, the security guy, the clothing lady — ‘Dave’s not paying enough attention to me.'”
Tensions Rise Between The Two
The situation escalated during a performance at Jones Beach, New York when Roth felt betrayed by Wolfgang’s actions. According to the singer, the Mammoth WVH frontman instructed some security staff to eject two women Roth had invited.
Roth also touched upon their last concert together at the Hollywood Bowl. However, the nostalgia was overshadowed by another incident involving Wolfgang, who DLR claims caused trouble by having security remove a woman from backstage. This woman was not only Roth’s guest but also the accountant responsible for the crew’s paychecks and bonuses.
