Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee had recently stated they stood against the ‘dark acts of barbarism’ while criticizing Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel. Rush rockers shared their joint statement on Instagram, clearly remarking that they stood with Israel and the Jewish people.
However, it seems that both Lifeson and Lee received harsh criticism about their stance, as they shut down their comments section on IG. Still, these recent backlashes didn’t stop Rush’s Instagram account from announcing that Lee, who has Jewish ancestry, would tour the U.S. and conduct reading sessions for his book, ‘My Effin’ Life.’
The comments section of the announcement, however, was hectic as many condemned the frontman’s stance against Palestine and called him out to open the comments section of his personal account. One follower said:
“Turn your comments on, wow.”
Another user condemned the singer’s stance by saying they wouldn’t go and see his tour:
“I think I [won’t] show [in] London, just can’t imagine sitting there knowing someone I admired so much is a Zionist…”
A follower sounded very disappointed, stating:
“The last post was sickening and disappointing. I wish you said nothing at all. It sounds like the same zionist sensationalist bullsh*t propaganda we see in mainstream media. I was hoping Rush’s official page wouldn’t sound so naive, equating oppressors with the oppressed…
This isn’t about Jews or antisemitism or even Hamas as much as it is about a Zionist supremacist apartheid regime, and you are being fooled just like everybody else. If only any white North American can truly imagine experiencing just one day of real oppression before they talk.
Just read the history, look at statistics and numbers, watch the actual video footage (over the course of 70 years and today), and listen to non-zionist Jewish voices of reason. I really, really wish this was execs/page admins and that Geddy and Alex, as artists, did not approve of this bullsh*t. Sad.”
The comment section had other similar criticisms and harsh words directed at the vocalist. Geddy and Rush, however, have remained silent and haven’t replied to any of the condemning fans.
