Royal Blood Reveals ‘Wild Moment’ With Jimmy Page

Royal Blood recently appeared on the Lipps Service podcast and talked about their relationship with Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page. When asked if they were on texting basis with Page, frontman Mike Kerr replied:

“No texting but one of our first shows in New York he was at and that was very early on in our career. We were very much just being discovered so having kind of his nod of approval was  wild.”

When Scott Lipps asked if he was a Led Zeppelin fan, the singer said:

“Oh absolutely, yeah I mean I would just listen to Led Zeppelin records and just like stare at the speaker.”

Jimmy Page was awarded the Rock’N’Roll Soul Award at the NME Awards 2015 with Austin, Texas. Royal Blood were the ones that gave the guitarist his award at London’s O2 Academy Brixton. After receiving the award, in his acceptance speech Page had said:

“Thank you to Royal Blood. They said it’s an honour to be giving this award but it’s an honour for me. I trust so much in Royal Blood. As far as whatever I’ve managed to do in music, I’ve learned from records and my heroes. I’m only just passing on the baton. I got the music and passed it on.”

When Scott brought up that they gave the award to Page, he also pointed out that getting the guitarist’s approval must have felt like a ‘highlight moment’ in their careers. Mike expressed:

“Yeah, he’s so obsessed with music in the same way we are. We’d all happily sit down and talk about pedals and just nerd out and I think whenever we’ve met someone who we’ve looked up to or who’s been a big influence on us it always comes back to that kind of… we’re all pursuing the same thing here. Yeah, there’s a commonality that’s powerful because we’re all just chasing the same thing.”
