Roger Taylor Reacts To Eric Clapton’s Stance On Vaccine Requirements
Queen drummer Roger Taylor was interviewed by Metro, and during his conversation, the musician reflected his ideas about the COVID-19 vaccine and anti-vaxxers. Also, he targetted musicians like Eric Clapton, who decided not to perform in venues that require proof of vaccination.
As you may remember, after the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson declared that the citizens must be vaccinated to enter nightclubs and other indoor venues, Eric Clapton announced his approach to the subject. Clapton slammed the government for forcing people to get vaccinated and said he wouldn’t perform in such places.
Clapton’s statement read:
“Following the PM’s announcement on Monday, July 19, 2021, I feel honor-bound to make an announcement of my own:
I wish to say that I will not perform on any stage where there is a discriminated audience present. Unless there is a provision made for all people to attend, I reserve the right to cancel the show.”
Therefore, Clapton was heavily criticized and labeled as an anti-vaxxer. Hence, his daughter Ruth Clapton explained the reason behind Clapton’s decision and highlighted that her father isn’t against the vaccination but opposes discrimination. However, this statement couldn’t stop his fans and colleagues from targeting Eric Clapton.
One of them, Roger Taylor, highlighted that it is foolish to perform concerts for the people who didn’t get vaccinated. Taylor not only slammed the musicians like Eric Clapton but also all anti-vaxxers because of their irrational conspiracy theories about the vaccine, which is currently humans’ only hope to get rid of COVID-19 and its deadly side effects.
In Taylor’s words, he said:
“The anti-vaxxers I don’t get. I don’t understand that at all. It seems to be born of pure ignorance and an amount of arrogance and conspiracy theories. It’s pathetic actually. Of course, vaccinations work and we are so lucky to have them, to enable our own bodies to fight the virus.
I know people that think it is some giant conspiracy. I just don’t understand them and to be honest I just think it is idiotic not to be vaccinated. As for people only doing concerts for people who are not vaccinated, that is even more stupidity.“
So, according to Roger Taylor, the only thing that is more stupid than not getting vaccinated is letting these people attend the concert. Taylor believes that public health must be the number one priority which seizes to be the case when some refuse to get vaccinated.
