Robert Smith Says The Cure’s Next Album Will Be The Last One, ’I Can’t Do This Again’

In his recent interview with Sunday Times, The Cure lead vocalist Robert Smith gave the details about the band’s new album. He also revealed that the upcoming album of The Cure would be their last work because Smith can’t endure the creating and recording process anymore.

The latest and thirteenth studio album of The Cure entitled ‘4:13 Dream’ was released on 27 October 2008. It was meant to be released as a double album but then they gave this idea up. Even though they recorded thirty-three songs, ‘4:13 Dream’ consisted of thirteen songs. The latest album of the band received positive reviews from their fans and music critics.

The iconic rock band, The Cure hasn’t released any new material for over ten years. However, in one of his recent interviews, Robert Smith announced that they were working on the new album of the band and recorded two different albums. One of them has a very dark and gloomy theme and the other one is the exact opposite of it. But, he decided to mix two albums and to release this mixing as a new studio album of The Cure.

During his interview, Smith stated that the new album was almost ready to be released. Also, he defined this process of writing and recording new songs as a real challenge. He admitted that it was so hard to produce new songs every time and to avoid repetition saying that he couldn’t do it anymore. This is the main reason why The Cure won’t release any other albums after their fourteenth studio album.

Here’s what he said during the interview:

Last year I just gave up. I thought, ‘I can’t do it. They can all be instrumentals.’ And this year I sort of came back to it. Last year was difficult for a number of reasons, not least the pandemic, but what I wrote this year I have enjoyed.

Yet it is still a struggle. You write a certain number of songs and, honestly, you repeat yourself.

And I can’t think we’ll ever do anything else. I definitely can’t do this again.”

Therefore, The Cure lead vocalist Robert Smith shared the band news to the longtime fans of the band by saying it was impossible to write and compose any other works after the release of their upcoming fourteenth studio album. The next album of the band will be their last album due to the challenging process of recording an album.
