Nuno Bettencourt Doesn’t Mind Extreme Fans’ Disappointment With ‘Six’

Extreme’s return with their latest studio album ‘Six’ after a 15-year break gathered mixed reactions from their fanbase. Lead guitarist Nuno Bettencourt revealed in a recent interview with Total Rock that he didn’t mind the disappointment expressed by some fans about the new record. Answering the criticisms, he said:

“One song would be heavy, and then it’d be like ‘More Than Words,’ and then it’d be a Frank Sinatra track. People were like, ‘What is wrong with these guys? They can’t decide who they want to be.’ Somebody said to me Extreme fans aren’t gonna like this. That this isn’t Extreme. There was a part of me that went, ‘Is that so?'”

Bettencourt made his point clear by adding:

“Every album we’ve released, every song, I’ve heard, ‘This is not Extreme! This doesn’t work!’ I said, ‘You’re basically telling me that it belongs on the album.’ Every year the Extreme album ad should always be the same: expect the unexpected.”

The guitarist mentioned the unexpected back in March when his band released the first single ‘Rise’ from its new album. As reported by Yahoo, he claimed:

“Whatever you think an Extreme album is after two or even three songs, it’s not. That goes for every record we’ve ever done. True Extreme fans know to ‘expect the unexpected.’ I feel like we need a good old-school rock album. Six is definitely modern, but you can put on headphones and go on a journey from top-to-bottom. It’s like ‘Extreme 2.0.'”
