Robbie McIntosh Recalls His Embarrassing Encounter With Roger Daltrey

Robbie McIntosh recently sat down for an interview with Rolling Stone. During the conversation, the musician delved into his experience of jamming with Roger Daltrey and shared the memory of the times they crossed paths.

Former Pretenders member talked about teaming up with Daltrey on the 1985 record ‘Under a Raging Moon,’ expressing admiration for the musician. While speaking about the album and the tour that followed it, he also dished an ’embarrassing’ tale about meeting The Who vocalist years after their work together.

He painted a picture of the collab process by saying:

“That was great fun. It was just me and a bass player, and a drummer. The bass player was John Siegler, who worked with Todd Rundgren for a time, and Hall and Oates. He was fantastic. The drummer was the drummer from Big Country, Mark Brzezicki.

I’d grown up being a complete Who nut. Roger was amazing. He was there all the time, and he sang guide vocals on a couple of tracks. He always sounded just like Roger Daltrey all the time. There’s no trickery with his voice.”

When asked about his no-show at the tour, he explained:

“Yeah. I didn’t do it. I lost touch with Roger. I’ve bumped into him at a couple of charity things recently. He remembered me once. The next time, he didn’t remember who I was. That was a bit embarrassing, really. [Laughs.]”

McIntosh was the main guitarist on Daltrey’s record, which turned out to be the latter’s best charting work. He also appeared with the singer in the music video for ‘Let Me Down Easy.’
