Rick Astley will be opening this Saturday’s Pyramid Stage performances at the Glastonbury Festival. Since there are rumors about Foo Fighters taking the stage, NME asked Astley whether he has heard from David Grohl about a possible performance. Rick replied:

“I think everyone has heard those rumors. I haven’t had a text from Dave, if that’s what you’re asking. I don’t know. I went to the Taylor Hawkins tribute gig at Wembley, and I’m just really happy for them that they can go out and play live again. In a lot of people’s minds, it was unknown if they would. It’s a wonderful thing. If they did turn up at Glastonbury and there was a roof, then I’m sure they’d take the roof off.

Although Rick doesn’t know if Foo Fighters will perform at the festival, he and Grohl have been friends since 2017 after meeting at Japan’s Summer Sonic Festival. They even shared the stage several times, for instance, when they teamed up to surprise their fans at the relaunch of Club NME and when Grohl brought Rick on stage to perform a track when Foo Fighters headlined Reading Festival in 2019.

Even though they are friends, Astley revealed that he is hesitant to call them mates but praised them for being good people as he added:

“I would never profess to being mates with Foo Fighters, but they’re always really lovely when we bump into each other. They’re super solid and real people.”
