Rick Allen Opens Up For The First Time About The Violent Attack

In a recent appearance on the US TV show Good Morning America, Def Leppard‘s drummer Rick Allen opened up about the harrowing experience he endured in March when he was violently attacked by a 19-year-old outside of his hotel in Fort Lauderdale.

Allen had updated his followers on his well-being and thanked them for their support on Twitter in the week that followed the incident. Still, he was not yet ready to disclose the full details of the incident until his recent interview. After finding himself on the floor, the drummer raised his hand and assured his assailant that he posed no threat. He believes the attacker may not have recognized him but noticed that he only has one arm.

The musician’s first public statement on the incident is as follows:

“I heard a couple of steps, and then I just saw this dark, sort of flash, and the next thing I knew, I was on the ground. I landed on my backside and then continued on, hitting my head on the pavement. I reached my hand up into the air because I thought I was going to get attacked again. And I just said, ‘I am no threat to you.’ I don’t think he knew who I was, but he must’ve seen I wasn’t a threat because I’ve only got one arm.”

In April, Allen had provided an update to his fans, assuring them that Def Leppard’s World Tour with Mötley Crüe would proceed as planned. The drummer thanked his fans for their continued support and informed them that he was working on his physical and mental recovery.
